Michaela Lazner (“Miki”)

Position: Paediatrician

Clinical Interests: Paediatric Emergency Medicine, Paediatric trauma, Paediatric high dependency care

I am a Paediatrician with a special interest in Paediatric Emergency Medicine. My main job is as a Consultant in the Children’s Emergency Department, looking after Children attending the Alex’s A&E. My particular interest is in managing trauma and I am the Paediatric trauma lead for the Alex. I am also the Clinical Guidelines lead in the Alex which means I am responsible for developing clinical guidelines and ensuring our guidelines are kept up to date.
My other roles include looking after children in our short stay unit and the Paediatric high dependency unit, and I also hold out patient clinics in the Alex. In addition, I am one of a team of Paediatricians who supports the Paediatric Burns and Plastic Surgery service at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead.

I qualified from the University of Leeds in 1998 and undertook my Paediatric training in Yorkshire. I completed my Paediatric Emergency training at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, and the Sheffield Children’s Hospital in the UK. I am a member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, and the Association of Paediatric Emergency Medicine. I hold a degree of Master of Medical Science in Child Health, for which I received a distinction following my research and dissertation in non-invasive ventilation in children with bronchiolitis.
