Ruth Hallows graduated from Guy's Hospital Medical School in 1987. She did her General Surgical Rotation in Bristol, before becoming a flexible trainee in Paediatric Surgery, initially in Nottingham and then at the Birmingham Children's Hospital.
After obtaining her CCST, in 2005, she spent a year as a Locum Consultant in Paediatric Surgery at The Alex and was appointed to the substantive post in 2006. She is the Audit Lead for Paediatric Surgery, and has subsequently become Governance Lead for Paediatric Surgery. She writes questions for the Intercollegiate Board in Paediatric Surgery, and is a member of the A&E/HDU CRG group. She teaches a weekly Paediatric Surgical Registrar session, teaches medical students and speaks on GP refresher courses about Paediatric Surgery. She intends to undertake a certificate in education this year, and become Surgical Tutor for the foundation year trainees.
