Dr Kanumakala is originally from India and began his training there, before continuing to train in the UK and finally in Melbourne, Australia. He took up his post at this hospital in 2002, and has special interests in Paediatric Endocrinology, Diabetes, Obesity and Lipid Disorders in children. For the last five years, he has provided continuous health care supervision for nearly 150 diabetic children in the region. In addition, he is working with colleagues in the community to develop a unified approach to problems of childhood obesity.
He supports the work of Royal College of Paediatrics in various ways. He is a formally approved examiner for the college, a peer reviewer for the college magazine (archives of disease in children), and an executive member of the BPSU, a research division of the college. He also regularly hosts the MRCPCH exams at Brighton on behalf of the college and is involved with both the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching locally.
