The Department of Paediatric Orthopaedics is supported by a Consultant who sub-specialises in Paediatrics. The trauma aspect of the service is further supported by the team of Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons and Specialist Registrars who are based in the RSCH.

All elective outpatient, day case and Inpatient surgery for children and young people is undertaken at the Alex. In 2008/2009 the fracture clinic service for children and young people moved to the Alex. At the present time, children and young people attending the A/E department with fractures or trauma are triaged and treated in the first instance in the main A/E in the RSCH. We expect this to change in 2011 when paediatric A&E moves to the Alex.

The department provides on average 3 elective outpatient clinics per week, 2 fracture clinics, operating sessions for emergency trauma on a daily basis and 2 elective operating sessions per week for children and young people

The service is supported by dedicated paediatric physiotherapy and X-ray departments.
